In 1950 the film Pandora and Dutchman Errant was shot in Tossa de Mar. This Hollywood piece was directed by Albert Lewin and starring James Mason, Mario Cabré and Ava Gardner, who at the time of the film was 28 years old and was married with Frank Sinatra. The shooting was a great event for the quiet village, still in full post civil war period, when the mass tourism of the 60s had not yet arrived. In 1998, a commemorative bronze statue at natural size of Ava Gardner was erected by the catalan artist Ció Abellí.
